My X husband and I have not spoken a word to each other since 1994. This would not be the end of the world if we never spoke again, but it just so happens that my x is now living in a house that I own and is doing nothing to pay his own way. How did my "x "happen to land in my house after all these years you might be asking? Well it all started by my daughter calling me one night........
After 20 + years of working for his Father driving a garbage truck for the family business. His Father sold the garbage business and was suppose to leave my "X" a decent amount of cash for his dedication and service. My "x" planned on using the money to get himself a place to live. My daughter was to help in his efforts to find a house. As she told me she was going to get a house big enough for her and him to share. This way she would have her dream house and he could have her to take care of him in his golden years, which by the way should not be at the age of 48. What happen next can only be what I call typical in my life.
My "x" is not an easy person to get along with first off, he is for the most part a loner, he has some peculiar habits to say the least.
My daughter calls me one night and informs me that her Father has been arrested for threatening to kill Grandpa's (his Father's ) girlfriend, trying to commit suicide, and was run over by a police car. Well I thought this was the funniest story I had ever heard. I didn't much think at the time that it would end up in my back yard. After all, I have not been involved with my "X" in years. Well as it turns out I truly now believe that it might have been over the money that my "X" was suppose to get, as this little event happened to have fallen on the same day that the business deal was to close. Nevertheless he went to jail, was out of a job, and was evicted from the farm house he dwells in over the past 15 years. Which is just as long as it been since his Father evicted me and my children from the very same farm house and left us no where to go. At that point my "x" became my "X" and his Father and him for the most part lived happy ever after, until now.
Well, I don't know why I thought it was a good idea at the time , but I suggested to my daughter beings no one living at my house at the time he could stay there until this all was sorted out. WHY ?????? did I ever suggest that now I will never know. He is not doing anything but drinking and throwing his garbage on the floor for rats and cats to eat. He quit the job he got not to long ago, and has no money except that which is given to him by others. He is using his credit cards to buy booze and sits on the porch , gets ossified, and sings to the dogs and talks to his cats. Collects the scrap metal that I have on the property, and cash's it in and puts nothing back into the house in repair work or anything. To make matter worse, he throws all his crap all over the lawn so it looks even more disheveled then it already had become from lack of proper maintenance. I don't know what to do, I don't want to get my daughter upset with me, but she somehow seems to feel that I have to deal with this now in my life. I can't rent the house out to anyone with him living in it, and he doesn't look like he is going to up with the money I asked for to stay there. I guess I will just have to try explaining myself to his family again. Moreover, I believe that they are just happy he is not staying with them.
